Energy key points close

  Wind power / Key points

- Most of the energy that we use here on Earth comes from the Sun. This transference of energy heats the Earth's atmosphere.

- As the atmosphere heats up, warm air rises and denser, colder air rushes in to fill its place, creating wind. This process occurs on a global scale, creating wind currents all over the surface of the Earth.

- Wind has energy which can be harnessed by the right technology and used to fill sails, drive windmills and provide a source of energy for wind turbines, which make electricity.

- The UK is one of the windiest places in Europe. If all of the wind energy in the UK could be harnessed, it would provide more than enough energy for all our needs - but only on windy days.
