Evolution of language
Our sense of 'self-awareness' is one of the factors that makes us human. It connects our experience of the world around us to our minds. This sense may have evolved after language provided us with an 'inner voice' that allowed us to think and make plans. Our early ancestors, Homo erectus, could make and use tools for hunting. By 40,000 years ago, our modern human ancestors, Homo sapiens, could also describe hunting in words and paintings.
