EXPLAINS WHY COMPUTERS ARE NOT ALWAYS A REPORTER’S BEST FRIEND!
Computers transformed the Mirror newsroom during the 1980s under Robert Maxwell’s ownership. Like any piece of technology, they can sometimes cause headaches in the pressured world of the newsroom, as Eva Simpson explains:

“I've lost loads of stories in the computer when it freezes up on a deadline – you just want to cry. The worst was when I had written a three-part series on Destiny's Child and instead of writing it in three separate files I did it in one – and lost it all when the computer crashed. I had to rewrite it very quickly.”
