Piers Morgan was until recently the editor of the Daily Mirror. This was his desk, at which he took top-level decisions - and ate the odd cheese and pickle sandwich.

Mirror editors have been responsible for bringing us news of some of the most memorable events of the last 100 years.
 
     
HARRIET IN AIR-RAGE SHOCKER    

Ever heard of Harriet Quimby? In April 1912 she was the first woman to fly across the Channel in a plane similar to the design of the model shown here. Daily Mirror photographers had exclusive pictures, but they never made it into the paper. News had just reached England that Titanic had sunk and the Editor of the time – Alexander Kenealy – decided to run with this story instead.
 
     
ONE AMAZING DAY!  

For the Mirror newspaper the big event of the early 1950s was the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. Determined not to be beaten in its coverage, the paper knew it must provide readers with top-quality close-up pictures.

This specially designed camera was used by Mirror photographer George Greenwell to get balcony shots at the coronation when photographers were physically prevented from going any further than the palace gates.
