THE JOURNALISTS’ CHURCH
     

Known as the ‘Cathedral of Fleet Street’, St Bride’s Church has been at the heart of the printing community for over 500 years.

The church held a vigil at the start of the Wapping printing dispute in 1986 – and newspaper owners and union leaders prayed there together.

THE MIRROR GETS UNDER WAY            

The Daily Mirror launched as a paper for women on 2 November 1903. Advertisements for furs, hats and jewellery filled the first three pages, and alongside serious news appeared articles concerning dress and domestic affairs and a column called ‘Social Chit-Chat’.

DICK VAN DYKE IN MYSTERY DISAPPEARANCE  

Bill Soutar’s department used to alter photos with correcting fluid and pencil, before sending them to the ‘processing’ department.

Today, backbench staff and production journalists can dramatically alter images on their own computers.
