Studying genes and behaviour
To look for genes that influence behaviour, scientists study people with a particular characteristic. For example, to look for genes affecting alcoholism, scientists study families with several alcoholics. They also compare the frequency of certain gene variants in alcoholics with non-alcoholics. To investigate the influences of genes and environment, scientists often compare behaviour in identical and non-identical twins.
