Capturing human diversity
The Human Genome Diversity Project aims to collect blood samples for DNA from all the world's peoples. As well as revealing our history, the project may help scientists understand how different versions of some genes affect our resistance or predisposition to many common illnesses. Critics call this project 'genetic plundering' and fear this information may profit drug companies, with no benefit to the people who provided the DNA.
