Icelandic genes

Icelandic doctor Kári Stefansson has set up his own company to create a giant electronic database of genetic information on every citizen in Iceland, a country where the population was isolated for 1000 years. DNA samples will be collected from volunteers and analysed to look for gene variants that affect their predisposition to disease. Opponents of the project object to this commercial use of genetic information and believe it may lead to discrimination in Iceland.
