What next?

The Human Genome Project is just the beginning of the quest to understand our genetic make-up. When it is complete, scientists will still be faced with huge challenges. Most importantly, what does each of your genes do in your cells? What happens if a gene does not work properly? How do genetic and other influences interact to affect your health, appearance and personality? It will take many years of further research before these questions can be answered.

When the Human Genome Project finishes, there is still much work to do.
