The world's oldest people
The longest life on record is that of Caribbean woman, Elizabeth Israel, who was 125 years old in January 2000. Elizabeth is the daughter of a slave, Magdelaine Israel, who was brought to Dominica in the nineteenth century and was herself a centenarian. Shirechiyo Izumi of Japan, was the world's oldest man when he died aged 120 years and 8 months, in 1986. Elsewhere in the world, there have been unconfirmed reports of people living even longer.
