The 1950s
In June 1951 the aircraft was refurbished with a view to possible export to an overseas customer such as Egypt or Syria. But in 1954 it was sold back to Vickers for trials with a non-standard Rolls-Royce Griffon 85 engine and contra-rotating propellers.
After these trials PK664 was returned to the RAF, and from August 1954 it became a 'gate guardian' on display outside various RAF bases, including the Central Fighter Establishment at West Raynham, Norfolk, and RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire.
