If anyone can be credited with the design of the Spitfire, it was R J Mitchell. He was the Chief Designer at the Supermarine company, and his talent for aircraft design was matched by his talent for team-building. The team were at the forefront of modern aircraft design and helped place Britain ahead of the world.
