Stephen Charles Triboudet Demainbray, electrician and astronomer, 1750-1780.

Silhouette portrait of Stephen Charles Triboudet Demainbray (1710-1782). Demainbray lectured on natural philosophy, travelling in Britain and Europe. He settled in London in 1754 and became tutor in mathematics and science to the Prince of Wales, (later King George III.) He was also appointed Superintendent of the King's Observatory (or King's Astronomer) at Kew. Demainbray arranged for George III to view the transit of Venus on 3 June 1769. His instruments were combined with the King's collection and given to the Science Museum in 1927.
