The Belling 'Modernette' electric cooker, 1919.

This cooker was introduced just after World War I and is of very light, mild steel construction. There are three heaters on the hotplate (two boiling burners and a grill) all with low, medium and full heat positions. The coiled-wire heating elements are exposed and are liable to damage or short circuiting from pots boiling over. On the side there is a plate warmer. Designed for use in a small house or flat. Charles Reginald probably designed the 'Modernette'. Made by Belling and Co Ltd, Enfield - it was Belling's first domestic cooker.
