Wooden electrically-driven domestic washing machine, c 1920.

Electrically driven, with a mangle made by Beatty Bros of Canada. This interesting machine shows how electricity was first used to drive a hand-operated washer. The tub and 4-legged dolly are like those of earlier machines. The electric motor is mounted under the tub, a dangerous position as it is exposed to water over-flowing or leaking from the tub. Raising the tub lid automatically disconnects the drive to the dolly, the mangle drive is engaged by a handle to the right of the rollers. 3/4 view showing agitator.
