Child's china teaplate, c 1922.
Image number: 10276280

Plate with cartoon bearing the legend '2ZY Manchester calling'. The first radio and television broadcasting stations used call-signs, identification codes still used by radio amateurs, ships and aircraft. Most familiar was ZLO for London. As this plate suggests the public cheerfully accepted this rather official means of identification.
