Acoustic fish tag, c 1976.
Image number: 10284084

Acoustic tags allow fish to be identified and tracked for relatively long periods, to show how they respond to environmental phenomena such as tides. Tags comprise a receiver and transmitter which returns the sonar signal to the tracking ship. The tag is attached to the fish by a thread and a conventional Peterson tag.
