Laryngoscope, late 19th century.

The laryngoscope is an instrument used for examining the throat and larynx. Invented in the 19th century, it was one of the first endoscopes (medical instruments for examining the interior of the body) to be developed. This example was made by Henry Galante of Paris, and was designed to be mounted on the chimney of an oil lamp.
