An incomplete cupping set comprising one scarificator, three cupping glasses, a bottle, a canister, and a kettle in a mahogany case, used by Edward Jenner. This is ordinary equipment all surgeons would have owned. The English doctor Edward Jenner (1749-1823) introduced vaccination in 1796. His scientific investigations, published in 1798, showed that fluid taken from a human with cowpox could be used more safely for vaccinations than could variolation - inoculating non-infected people with fluid from pustules of smallpox sufferers.
