Artificial hand and forearm, 17th century.

Artificial iron arm, for left hand below-elbow amputee. Artificial limbs such as these were expensive items made by armourers, and they allowed wearers who had lost a limb in combat to continue with their fighting career. This one is believed to date from the 17th century, although some examples of such arms have recently been recognised as later copies. Full view (palm up).
