Cupping horn, inscribed 'G C Jenner 1825'.

A section of cow horn, inscribed 'G C Jenner, 1825' ; possibly a relic of 'Blossom' the cow, source of the first vaccination fluid. 'G C' is Edward Jenner's (1749-1823) nephew, George Charles Jenner. In the 1790s the English doctor Edward Jenner used a lancet to introduce fluid from a cowpox sore through a person's skin, in order to inoculate them against smallpox, a similar but more dangerous disease.
