Hunting trousse, English, c 1570.

This highly decorated set of steel instruments was probably used for carrying out amputations and for cutting up deer killed by hunting. In the 16th century the same set of steel instruments often had more than one use, serving for example as weapons, carving knives and surgical equipment.
