Brambilla's textbook of military surgery, 1782.

A set of amputation instruments, including a saw, shown laid across an illustrated plate from an early surgical textbook written by Giovanni Alessandro Brambilla (1728-1800). Brambilla was military surgeon to the Austrian Emperor Josef II. His treatise represented a landmark in surgical textbooks. The instruments are made of steel and ebony, and were manufactured by Lichtenberger in Strasbourg, c 1800.
