The kit was made by W Martindale but the actual drug was produced by Meister Lucius & Bruning (Hoechst am Main, Germany). Salvarsan, also known as an arsphenamine, is a synthetic, organic arsenic compound develped to treat syphilis by the German chemist Paul Ehrlich.
