Early electric fire, 1900-1920.

Electric fire with two Dowsing incandescent sausage-shaped bulbs and ornate Art Nouveau metal surround made by the General Electric Company, England. This is typical of the type of low output electric fire made for middle class households in large towns who had electricity supplies. The 'sausage' bulbs, used in many early electric fires, are like an oversized light bulb coated on the outside and mounted in front of a reflector in an attempt to concentrate the heat given off.
