This wrought iron hoe was made by the Jur Tribe of Sudan using a simple clay furnace to heat the metal before hammering it into shape. The Jur are an African Luo people living south of Wau in southern Sudan, who are typically non-Muslim and non-Arabic speaking, and who are predominantly farmers and blacksmiths.
