The brothers developed a flying machine and learnt to fly over several years using gliders before fitting an engine. The original Wright Flyer was placed in the Science Museum by Orville Wright in 1928, but was returned to the United States in 1948. The diorama depicts the Wright Flyer, with Orville piloting, at the moment of starting along the wooden launching track for the first flight. The flights took place at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
