Veritas-Atmos paraffin cooker, c 1930.

A typical paraffin cooker for use in rural areas without gas or electricity supplies. Note its very light construction of sheet iron and iron angles. The two burners have annular wicks. The oil reservoir is of glass and feeds the oil automatically to the burners by a chicken feed device so the oil cannot flow out until the level of the vessel beneath the reservoir falls enough to admit a bubble of air to the reservoir, thus unsealing it. A separate oven is only placed on the hotplate for roasting.
