Double obstetrical fillet, 1851-1900.

This instrument was used during childbirth to assist in the delivery of the foetus. Although fillets were designed to apply increased traction to the foetus during childbirth, they wre not as successful, or popular, as forceps. It is thought to be composed of whalebone and was manufactured by Wood of York.
