Midsummer chronophage clock
The clock is based on a grasshopper escapement, an invention of English clock maker John Harrison (1693-1776). Normally hidden from view, the escapement is turned inside out to be on show. The Chronophage insect or ‘time-eater’ greedily chomps down every minute to show time racing away. Its sister clock, the Corpus Clock, is located at Corpus College, Cambridge.
