Medieval ploughing, 14th century
Raphael Roussel produced this stunning diorama from details in the 14th-century Luttrell Psalter in the British Library. Clever use of skewed perspective brings out the hard graft required to plough the fields with a team of oxen, and the model fades seamlessly into the background painting of a medieval village, rooted in the work of the countryside and clustered around the church.
