FitzRoy's storm barometer, 1871-1880.

Fitzroy's storm barometer, 1871-1880.
Admiral Robert FitzRoy (1805-1865) set up the organisation known as the Meteorological Office (Met Office), to warn ships going to sea of the approach of bad weather. To a simple mercury barometer he added a set of weather sayings to assist the would-be mariner to make his own forecast. This example by Negretti and Zambra includes a thermometer and wet and dry bulb thermometers for humidity measurement, making it suitable for inland rather than for maritime use.
