Sphinx
Half a lion and half a woman, the Sphinx is linked to the myth of Oedipus who answered her riddle: ‘What is it that walks on four legs in the morning, on two at noon, and on three in the evening?’ In response to his correct answer, the Sphinx reveals Oedipus’s fate, in psychoanalytical terms the compulsion of the ‘Oedipus complex’.
