SS 'Great Eastern', 1858.
A rigged model of the largest ship of its day, the Great Eastern. The model was donated to the museum by the ship's architect John Scott Russell. It features, sail, propeller, and paddle-wheel power. The ship was a commercial failure but laid the first transatlantic telegraph cable.
