Early power stations
Electricity supply began in a small way. Generators housed in any odd space or back yard provided electricity to only a few dozen households. These homes only used the electricity for lighting.
The electricity supply was direct current (DC), which is a continuous flow of electric current in one direction. The generators were shut down overnight when the small amount of power required was provided from batteries charged up during the day.
How did the electricity industry expand?
