Concerns about animal transplants
There are concerns about the safety of transplanting organs from animals to humans (xenotransplantation), especially the risk of infection by animal viruses. There are also worries that we do not know enough about what genes (and the proteins they make) do when they are transferred from one animal to another. Unless these problems can be overcome, routine xenotransplantation will remain illegal. Many people have also raised ethical objections to this technology.
