Eugenics in the UK
Francis Galton, Charles Darwin's cousin, founded the Eugenics Society in the late nineteenth century. He believed that many human attributes, including criminality and intelligence, were inherited. He thought that those he considered 'genetically superior' should have more children, while the 'inferior' should have fewer children, or be sterilised. His ideas were popular but never put into practice in Britain.
