Abnormal cell growth

The signals that control cell growth are proteins. Cells use your genes to make these proteins. Each gene is the instruction for a particular protein. Occasionally a gene is damaged, resulting in a change, or gene mutation which may sometimes affect a protein so that it no longer works properly. Mutations in certain crucial genes can cause abnormal cell growth, and eventually turn a healthy cell into a cancer cell.
