Marc Quinn - Eternal Spring II (Sunflowers)

  • Refrigeration unit, flowers, silicone
  • Location: Talking Points, ground floor Wellcome Wing (no longer on display)

Eternal Spring II (Sunflowers) presents a vase of sunflowers, immersed in liquid. The flowers have a hyper-real quality - although they appear to be freshly cut, they are in fact artificially preserved in frozen liquid silicone and will remain in perfect bloom forever. The work explores questions raised by recent advances in genetic engineering such as: 'What is natural?' and 'What is perfect?'
