Medicine and Health
Our medical galleries on the fourth and fifth floors have now closed. We will be opening a new Medicine gallery in 2019, transforming the first floor of the Science Museum into a magnificent new home for our medicine collections.
In the meantime you can visit Journeys Through Medicine, which displays the wide diversity of ways that people have perceived health, using examples that range from prehistoric surgical tools to modern medical equipment.
Who am I? on the first floor explores the way biomedical science is challenging our perceptions of our own identity, behaviour and origins.
Plus we’ve got the most important piece of mould you’ll ever see. There’s an early sample of Penicillin in Making the Modern World along with one of the first X-ray machines and Crick and Watson’s molecular model of DNA.
