Open seven days a week, 10.00-18.00. Entry to the Museum is free.

Early Birds

Early Birds enables families with children who have Autism to come along and enjoy the Museum free from the hustle and bustle of the general public.

Taking place on particular Saturdays across the year, we open the Museum early at 8.30am and some of our interactive galleries remain available exclusively to booked Early Birds guests until 11.15am. As well as exploring some of the galleries you can enjoy a selection of fun workshops and exciting demonstrations.

All of these events are completely free and suitable for families with children under the age of 15.

When are Early Birds taking place?

The next Early Birds will take place on 12 December 2015.

Please note that the Early Birds session on the 12 December 2015 is now fully booked.

Booking will open at 10.00am on Friday 13 November 2015. Please see below for information about how to book.

If you would like to receive a reminder that bookings are about to open, please email: familyprogrammes@sciencemuseum.ac.uk and we'll add you to our Early Birds mailing list.

Do I need to book?

Places are limited so you do need to book. Call us on 020 7942 4777 – we'll take your details and send an email confirming your Early Birds places.

Our booking lines are normally open on Mondays to Thursdays from 8.45–17.00, and on Fridays from 8.45–15.00. The team taking your booking also handles school visits and Science Night bookings, so the lines can get very busy. Please bear with us if you can't get through.

How do I cancel my Early Birds booking?

If you have already booked but are no longer able to attend, please let us know by emailing: edbookings@sciencemuseum.ac.uk, so that we can release your places. It's helpful if you can include your booking reference number when you contact us.

What else do I need to know?

Once you have booked we will email more information about the programme for your visit about a week in advance.

Our Visual Story can help you prepare for your visit. (If you have problems downloading the pdf, right click on the link and use 'Save Target As...' or 'Save link as...' to save the file to your pc.)

Not all areas of the Museum will be open during Early Birds. The programme we send you nearer the time will explain the areas that you will be able to explore.

When the Museum opens to general visitors at 10.00 some areas will remain exclusively for Early Birds guests until 11.15. After 11.15 all areas of the Museum will be open to the general public. At this point you are welcome to stay and explore other galleries that were not available during Early Birds.

I'm a school teacher, can I bring my class?

Early Birds is just for families, so please feel free to spread the word to the parents of pupils aged under 15 years.

What if I'm over 15?

Don't worry if you're over 15, we have our Night Owls event which will run on the 28th November for young adult visitors (16-25 years old) who have Autism.

Thank you

Early Birds is supported by The Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation.
