Back in the 1860’s mauve was officially the new black - even Queen Victoria wore it! For the first time ever purple dye, or mauveine as it was called, was the first man made dye. Up until then people had to rely on the colour from organic sources such as insects, flowers, leaves and berries. Meet Alexandra Burnett who is more than happy to show off her spectacular dress, coloured with the new dye of the time; mauveine.
