Psychology: Mind Your Head

The Psychology exhibition marks the centenary of the British Psychological Society. Through an exciting range of objects, artworks, audiovisuals and an interactive it sets out the essential techniques that most psychologists use in their everyday practice.

The exhibition has three main themes. 'Solving puzzles' shows how psychologists have addressed a very difficult problem: just how does the mind work?

The 'Using tools' case explores the practical ways psychologists tackle problems in education, health and industry.

In the final case, called 'Telling stories', the psychologist is viewed as a storyteller. Central to this section are two stories involving W H Rivers, the psychologist famed for treating war poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen using the then new methods of psychoanalysis – the so-called ‘talking cure’.

An additional case houses the recreated Biosignal Laboratory, which was developed by the famous British-based psychologist Hans Eysenck to help with his research into intelligence and personality.
