The Garden is an interactive gallery created especially for our very youngest visitors.
When we’re little, playing is just another way of learning. This makes the gallery an ideal place for 3–6 year olds to discover science by playing in an exciting, multi-sensory environment.
The main areas – construction, water, light and sound – introduce simple yet key scientific principles in a fun way. Inquisitive children are free to explore floating and sinking, shadows and reflections, music, giant building blocks and much more while developing the skills of observing, predicting, testing and drawing conclusions.
As in all our interactive galleries, the Museum’s Explainers are on hand to help – you can’t miss them; they all wear bright red shirts. They are happy to answer questions or join in the games to ensure that everyone gets the most from the gallery.
On Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th June the water area of The Garden gallery will be closed for essential maintenance. The rest of the gallery will be open as usual
The Garden will be closed to visitors for the whole of September to allow us to make improvements to the gallery and help maintain it as a fun space for children to enjoy. In the meantime, please visit our other interactive galleries, such as Pattern Pod and Launchpad
