Journey through the world of gaming at the Science Museum’s Lates this April as we celebrate the return of Power UP, our popular gaming event. Taking place on Wednesday 27 April, this special after-hours gaming extravaganza features free activities, workshops, and an exciting line-up of talks.

With discounted entry to Power UP on the night, both fans and novices are encouraged to experience a fascinating evolution of video games that spans five decades. Made up of over 160 consoles and hundreds of games—from retro arcade classics like Pac-Man, through to the latest in VR technology—the event showcases the very best of gaming.

The museum’s interactive Lates workshops and compelling Q&As will open up discussions that allow visitors to delve into a variety of topics. Visitors can explore the future of storytelling in video games with journalist Shay Thompson and designer Alex Cachinero-Gorman and discover how the games industry is tackling the problems of climate change.

From Nintendo classics to modern masterpieces, gaming soundtracks have become more important to fans than many could’ve anticipated. At Lates join the Ready Singer One choir in the Making of the Modern World gallery to hear songs from your favourite video games as you’ve never heard them before. Or grab a headset and step into Exploring Space for a drop-in silent disco between workshops.

Visitors can also hear from Jo Twist, the CEO of UK Interactive Entertainment, who will be examining how games can make a positive impact on our society today. Covering a range of topics from accessibility within gaming to how the industry is evolving to improve gaming communities, representation and inclusivity, listeners will be able to take part in this compelling Games for Good Q&A.

There will also be the chance for gamers to battle it out at the board game café, stir up competition in the pub quiz, and complete a Pokémon-style hunt through the museum.

Lates takes place at the Science Museum on Wednesday 27 April from 18.15 - 22.00. For more information and to book free tickets please visit: https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/see-and-do/lates
