Scientists unleash the power of genetic engineering to put dinosaurs and humans back into the mix together in Stephen Spielberg’s groundbreaking blockbuster.

On its release in 1993, 'Jurassic Park' was hailed as a movie masterpiece and its pioneering use of CGI not only created the most convincing dinosaurs ever put to screen but ushered in a new era of movie special effects.

In the film, based on Michael Crichton’s best-selling novel, a wealthy entrepreneur secretly builds a theme park populated by genetically engineered dinosaurs created using prehistoric DNA. But can the scientists keep their creations under control?

'Jurassic Park' is part of a long lineage of movies that project society’s fears, paranoias and aspirations relating to the science of the day. 'Godzilla' was famously a reflection of fears around nuclear weapons, 'The Terminator' playing on our fear of machines and 'Artificial Intelligence', and of course, 'Jurassic Park' is cinema’s most famous exploration of the ethics of genetic engineering.

  • David Koepp—celebrated 'Jurassic Park' screenwriter, who in September published his first novel, the darkly comic techno-thriller 'Cold Storage'. Exclusive signed copies of 'Cold Storage', published by HQ, will be on sale at the event.
  • Dr Elizabeth Jones—US-based historian specialising in the history of science, paleo-genetics and de-extinction. She is currently writing her first book, 'Ancient DNA: The History and Celebrity of a Science in the Spotlight'.
