A panel of energy experts join us to discuss the future of nuclear fusion and solar power, following a screening of the absorbing documentary 'Let There Be Light'. 

Clean, safe and unlimited power has been an obsession of scientists and inventors for centuries, and an underlying preoccupation for our society as a whole. Since the 1940s, when we first understood how the Sun creates energy, nuclear fusion has been energy’s Holy Grail. But could we now be on the brink of at last producing an ‘artificial Sun’ here on Earth? 

For decades, fusion has been delayed and thwarted by failure, miscalculation, fraud and politics. But today it is being pursued with a renewed zeal, mostly because we have never needed it as much as we do now. Thirty-seven countries are currently collaborating to build the biggest experiment ever, ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), to prove that fusion is viable. 

'Let There Be Light' (15) chronicles the work of the passionate scientists who are struggling to make the breakthrough that could alter the course of human history.

Panel discussion: Is nuclear fusion the way forward?

The screening is followed by a discussion—and most likely no shortage of lively debate—about the viability of nuclear fusion and solar energy as the answers to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
