Science Museum Space Seminar Series

The second of our multidisciplinary series of seminars taking a look at the development of space exploration in Asia.

The first season focused on Japan and included talks on Exoplanets, the Hayabusa2 mission and histories of Japan’s space activity. It was co-organised by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Season 2 is co-hosted with JAXA’s Space Education Center, and will consider space activity in South East Asia. For the seminar series we invite scholars and representatives of the space sector to discuss the history and current practice of space exploration as pursued in and perceived from the respective regions.

Aim

Recent years have seen continued growth of space activity across Asia. The primary goal of this seminar series is to deepen our understandings of such activities in East and South East Asia. We will hear first-hand accounts from those working and commenting upon the region’s space exploration and application programmes.

The series employs an ethos of ‘shared authority’ in which contribution and comment are anchored in the relevant regions themselves. The seminar series will build further towards more complete and globally representative understandings of space exploration and its history, increasingly pertinent to the rapidly growing global space sector of the twenty-first century.
